The capture of a “monster” Burmese python in America… Video
A group of hunters captured the second largest Burmese python ever discovered in South Florida after people sat on the massive snake, which was found stretched out on the road to Big Cypress National Preserve.
The snake hunters initially thought that the female snake was a crocodile because of its size. After they realized it was a Burmese python, one of the men grabbed the snake’s tail, trying to secure it, but he ended up being dragged away.
Mike Elfenbein, an environmental activist, said: “That was a big mistake because the snake took it to the canal, and there was nothing that could be done to stop it.” In the end, five men had to sit on the snake to catch it.
Weighing 90 kilograms and measuring 5.2 meters in length, this is the second heaviest snake ever captured in Florida, where the heaviest Burmese python was caught in 2022, weighing 98 kg.
It is difficult to detect snakes, which makes estimating their numbers challenging, but it is believed that tens of thousands of snakes live in Florida. Research conducted by the U.S. Geological Survey, published this year, found that over 10,000 Burmese pythons have been captured in the state over the past five years.
