Study: The most dangerous infection transmitted from pets to humans
Pets are considered an important part of many people’s lives around the world, but there is an invisible danger that threatens human health that may come from these animals. Pets, such as cats and dogs, can transmit many serious diseases that can affect humans.
In a recent study conducted by scientists from the Perm National Research Technical University in Russia, the most prominent types of infections that can be transmitted from pets to humans and cause serious health complications were identified, according to Gazeta.Ru.
According to scientists, anyone can be exposed to a range of pathogens from pet dander. Among the most notable of these diseases are parasitic worms that weaken the immune system and can cause various types of allergies. Among these parasites, echinococcosis and toxocariasis pose the greatest risks, as the larvae of these worms can settle in vital organs such as the eyes, brain, lungs, and liver, leading to poisoning and the loss of essential nutrients for the body.
Additionally, tapeworms can form a cyst around themselves with a diameter of up to 10 centimeters, and when this cyst ruptures, it causes irreparable internal damage. As for single-celled parasites, such as those that cause babysiosis and toxoplasmosis, they are considered among the most dangerous diseases transmitted through pets, especially toxoplasmosis, which can lead to fetal deformities during pregnancy.
Scientists add that even minor scratches caused by playing with cats can lead to the transmission of Pasteurella bacteria, resulting in skin ulcers and pneumonia if it reaches the lungs. Additionally, the rabies virus can be transmitted through pets, and it is one of the deadliest viruses for which there is currently no effective treatment.
While pets contribute to improving the lives of many people, we must be cautious of the health risks they may transmit. Maintaining the cleanliness of pets and ensuring they receive appropriate treatment is an important part of preventing these infections. Therefore, everyone should be aware of the potential diseases and take the necessary precautions to avoid serious health impacts.
