A heat wave hits South Korea, causing massive animal deaths.
This summer’s continuing heat wave in South Korea caused huge numbers of livestock, poultry, pigs, and fish on fish farms to die.
The Ministry of the Interior stated that from 1 June to 8 August, it was estimated that some 509 thousand livestock had been spent because of the heat wave, including some 475,000 poultry, and some 34,000 pigs.
Some 467,000 fish, including floppy fish, were spent on fish farms.
Eighty-eight new cases of heat-related human diseases were reported on August 7, without death.
The number of cases of heat disease from 20 May to 7 August was 2,004, a level similar to the corresponding number (2,005 cases) during the same period last year.
Higher sensory temperatures are expected to rise to about 35 °C in most areas of the country for some time, with some areas experiencing heavy rainfall of about 20 mm per hour accompanied by lightning and thunder until August 10.
Tonight is classified as tropical if at night temperatures remain above 25 degrees Celsius between 6:01 p.m. and 9 a.m. of the following day.
The Ministry of the Interior advises citizens to avoid outside activities between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. and to search for cold places if they feel dizzy, nauseated, or have headaches.
