Australia is famous for its distinctive creatures, many of which are exclusively inhabited by the giant island, and today a new animal, on an uninhabited island, of Australia, has been declared.

According to the British newspaper The Guardian, a new type of lizard, like a little dragon, was discovered with a pointy face and a leaf-shaped thorny tail on an uninhabited island in Queensland.

Professor Assok Conrad Hoskin, Earthbiologist at James Cook University, encountered the lizard in a “deep rock home covered in figs and sargas,” during a four-day survey of the island.

He said, “It’s so exciting, it’s the dream of every living scientist to find a new kind of animal.”

Hoskin named the animal Veloros Vimberiatos, a scientific name indicating the tips of the thorn around the lizard’s tail.
New meat-eating reptiles are about 15 cm long from nose to tail.
Hoskin said: “These lizards with paper tails look like bouldered rocks but have little white lines on their tail.”

He added: “Really very smooth for a paper tail, which is usually more intense… He’s got a really special look. “A big face and a nice pointy mouth.”

He described the new lizard world as “a little dragon or something.”

The paper-tailed lizard found on Scoville Island may be one of the last outstanding vertebrates to be found in Australia.
